I have a donation date
I have a date for my kidney donation: December 20. There are final confirmations and of course possibilities of needing to reschedule (e.g. if I get sick), but so far this is the date.
It’s really incredible, after over a year of consideration then tests, more conversations, research, more conversations, signing up, and even more conversations, the date is here! I am thrilled and a little scared. Thank you so much for your loving support.
Here’s what’s next:
I’ll do the pre-operation appointment the week before. This involves some tests, instructions, and a final cross match.
The donation will be early in the morning on December 20. After the operation, I will spend 1-4 nights in the hospital, depending on how the recovery goes. After that, may go to my cousin’s house or home. After that, I’ll be living more independently. And that’s when I could use your help. See this post for details on the ways you can help me.
You can sign up to help me on this spreadsheet. Please note that helping me will likely require flexibility based on how I am feeling on a day-to-day basis, my location, and my schedule. I appreciate if you’re even considering helping, and whether or not we see each other or interact directly.
I am donating to align myself with my highest values. I’ve researched and deliberated. I’ve put my trust in people and institutions. And from here, I pray that my actions benefit the recipient and society. Thank you for following along and for your support.
